Halogen elements

Halogen elements
Halogens are the elements that easily form salts. Belonging to the halogen element is Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, Iodine, and Astatine.

1. The presence of
Halogen is present in nature is always in the form of halide compounds (as anion). In minerals:
Fluor: CaF2 and Na3AlF6
Chlorine: NaCl and MgCl2
Brom: MgBr2 and KBr.6H2O
Iod: NalO3

2. Manufacture and use of Halogen
a. Flour
Created by the electrolysis of molten or HF + KHF2 KHF2 in place of copper, with carbon as the anode and the steel as the cathode. Fluor usability:
- As a polymer of tetrafluoroetilen (- CF2 - CF2 -) n.
- Freon as a coolant (CF2Cl2).
- Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) to test the glass.

b. chlorine
By means of electrolysis of concentrated NaCl solution with a separate electrode chamber (graphite electrode). Usefulness of chlorine:
- As a powder bleach and disinfectant (NaClO and CaOCl2).
- For explosives, matches, and the sparks (KClO3 and KClO4).
- In organoklor compound as a disinfectant, antiseptic, and such as DDT and BHC peptisida.

c. bromine
Manufacture by electrolysis solution of NaBr. Usefulness Brom:
- In the manufacture of anti-knock compound in gasoline.
- KBr, NaBr as a sedative.
- AgBr is used in photography.
- As a disinfectant and fumigant.

d. iodine
NAI manufacture by reacting with sulfuric acid and MnO. usefulness:
- In the body to thyroid hormones.
- Anti-septic.
- AgI used in photography.
